The 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Switzerland from 15 to 31 May, where the new world champion will be decided. Sixteen teams will begin their quest for the coveted title, divided into two preliminary groups. Group A, which will play its matches in Zurich, consists of the reigning world champion USA, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Austria, Hungary, and Great Britain. Group B includes Canada, Sweden, Czechia, Denmark, Slovakia, Norway, Slovenia, and Italy. This group will play in Fribourg. The preliminary round will be played from 15 to 26 May. The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals will be played on 28 May, the semifinals on 30 May, and the third-place match and the final will be played on Sunday, 31 May.
